What It’s Really Like to Travel Australia in Your 20s

Category: Inspiration, News, Date: 20 April 2026

There’s something incredible, thrilling and truly special about completing a lap of Australia in your 20s. Every step, every kilometre, every day, we feel closer to the land and this beautiful country we call home.

After doing 10,688 km in our first two months, we’ve got you covered for the travelling South Australia and Western Australia!

Our Why

If you’re waiting for the ‘right time’ you’ll be waiting forever.

Naturally, we kept comparing ourselves to everyone around us. Following the ‘normal’ 9-5 workday and paying constant bills was just not a priority for us – but travelling was! We had to realise that life is short— so if not now, then when?

We’d rather be rich in memories than money!

Our Top Tips

If you want to make the most of your time and money, preparation is key.

  • Know Your Car

When you have a house on wheels, it’s important to think logically about weight, resources and space.it’s important to have a basic understanding of the mechanical side of things, especially when going remote.

  • Plan Ahead

Planning ahead saves fuel, backtracking and last-minute expenses. When you’re visiting such amazing places, they sell out quickly! Being prepared keeps the trip smooth and ensures you make the most of your budget and itinerary.

Our Advice

There’s no right way to travel. This experience is yours and yours alone! Comparison and competition can make enjoying the trip really challenging.

Go at your own pace, follow your own timeline and do what feels right to you.

Some things that have helped us:

  • Saying yes more often
  • Talking to strangers and making friends
  • Pack less
  • Accepting that the car/van will always be dirty
  • Appreciating that although it may look aesthetic, it’s not always as perfect as it looks!
  • Locking up goodies when heading to bed
  • Understanding that things will ALWAYS go wrong, that’s a fact!

Handy Apps
