Known for its rich wildlife, great seafood and extreme natural beauty, you’ll feel a million miles away from it all as you explore the western most part of South Australia, along the Eyre Peninsula. Make sure you plan to be in the region to catch sight of the southern right whales while they are in the area from now until October.
With well maintained roads, country pubs and stunning national parks you’re sure to delight in the journey just as much as the destinations.
While you are in the Eyre Peninsula discover some unique and inspiring towns like Whyalla where the migration of cuttlefish started in May and goes until the end of August, or explore Tumby Bay with wonderful fishing and historic buildings.
There’s also Port Lincoln, known as ‘Australia’s Seafood Capital’ where dining on fresh seafood caught that day is a must, as is shark cave diving for the super adventurous!
Further along the Peninsula, near the southern extremity, you’ll find Coffin Bay where boating is hugely popular, as are the locally sourced oysters, known for being some of the best in the world.
Heading further west you’ll find the towns of Elliston and then Streaky Bay. Along this spectacular coastline your breath will be taken away by the scenery, as well as the sea lion colony visible from the Point Labatt Conservations Park viewing platform.
The finale to a trip along the Eyre Peninsula has to be Ceduna where you can explore numerous rockpools, more seafood and the pristine waters of Shelley Beach.
With numerous member caravan parks in the region stretching from Pt Augusta to Penong near the WA border, you’re sure to find plenty of suitable parks to stay on your next trek across this amazing region.
You can find more information about the region and the perfect places to visit and stay here.
