It feels like yesterday that we picked up our Jayco Destiny motorhome in Melbourne and began our adventure as Jayco RV Correspondents! Since then, we’ve travelled thousands of kilometres up Australia’s East Coast, ventured through the red dirt landscapes of the outback, and recently crossed into South Australia – which we’ve absolutely loved! Next stop… Tasmania!

One thing this adventure has taught us is just how diverse Australia really is. Every state is so unique, making it almost impossible to pick a favourite.
Tropical North Queensland has been one of the biggest highlights so far. From incredible waterfalls and spotting cassowaries to exploring ancient rainforests and stretches of beaches, it’s somewhere we’re already planning to return to.

The Flinders Ranges in South Australia completely exceeded our expectations too. The dramatic landscapes, incredible hiking trails and endless outback views made it one of the most memorable parts of our trip. But if we had to recommend one underrated destination, it would be the Sapphire Coast in southern New South Wales. You’ll quickly see how it earned its name. That stretch of coastline is pristine wilderness!

While we’ve been fortunate enough to visit some amazing destinations, we’ve also learnt a lot about travelling Australia and the costs that come with it. One of the biggest ways we’ve kept our expenses down is by setting a weekly food budget and cooking many of our meals in camp kitchens. It leaves a bit more room in the budget to support local cafés and restaurants.

We’ve also made the most of everything G’day Parks has to offer. Whether it’s using the shower amenities to save gas, relaxing by the pool, hiring bikes, playing mini golf or making use of the playgrounds and open spaces, there’s often plenty to do without spending any extra money. For families especially, these little extras can make a big difference.
One of our biggest tips is to chat with the staff when you check in. They always know the best local spots, and many parks have brochures, maps and even discounts for nearby attractions. Some of our favourite walks, swimming holes and lookouts have come from simply asking for recommendations!

One thing we’re constantly reminded of is how lucky we are in Australia, some of the country’s greatest experiences don’t cost a cent.
Planning ahead has also made life on the road so much easier. We always book our accommodation in advance, especially during school holidays and busy travel periods, and the G’day Parks app makes it simple to browse and book from more than 350 parks across Australia.
If you’re planning to travel regularly, G’day Rewards is well worth joining. You save 10% on every stay, plus receive access to exclusive offers and deals that help stretch the travel budget even further.
As we continue our journey, we’re incredibly grateful for everything we’ve experienced so far and excited for what’s to come. Australia has exceeded every expectation we had, but if there’s one thing we’ve learnt, it’s that you don’t need to spend a fortune to experience the very best of this incredible country.
We hope to see you on the road!
