Huge Crowd Enjoys Supershow’s First Trip to Melbourne Showgrounds

Category: News, Date: 30 March 2015

The first Victorian Caravan, Camping and Touring Supershow at the Melbourne Showgrounds is being hailed as a fantastic success with a bumper crowd enjoying more products than even before, a better visitor experience, informative seminars and some great prizes.

Despite searing heat, a new location and a new time, attendance was over 51,000, just short of last year’s record, laying a foundation for even bigger Supershows in the years ahead.
The 61st Supershow featured more caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes and travel accessories than ever before. In fact, over 1200 individual recreational vehicles on display, more than any Australian show in history.

The seminars and cooking demonstrations, hosted by a stellar line-up of presenters including Show Ambassador Geoff ‘Coxy’ Cox and AFL legend ‘Spida’ Everitt, were very well attended and it was also pleasing to welcome the Victorian Minister for Industry, The Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio, to launch the show.

With so much added space, transport around the festival was a breeze thanks to the AL-KO Shuttle Buggies while the Holman Misting Tents kept visitors cool on the warmer days. Caravan Industry Association of Victoria (CIA Vic) CEO, Rob Lucas, said he was delighted with the Supershow’s first trip to the Melbourne Showgrounds.

“This has been a monumental move for the Victorian Caravan, Camping and Touring Supershow and we were thrilled with the response to the new venue and our ability to show off the industry in a more professional light,” said Mr Lucas.

“It’s good to know that all the hard work that the Association has put in over the last year has resulted in the best show yet and we can’t wait to get cracking on making next year’s show even bigger.”

CIA Vic would also like to thank our major sponsor, CIL Insurance, for their fantastic support of the Supershow this year, as well as our other Show Partners and Media Partners.
The Passport to Freedom competition was the biggest in years and four very deserving winners took home some incredible prizes.

First prize was won by N. Orr from Launching Place who took home a brand new Metrolink Family Caravan thanks to Nova Caravans. Second prize, a brand new Avan Weekender Camper, was won by P. Bennett from Laverton. I. Wilson from Hamilton won 3rd prize, the Getaway Towing Package, and J. Jeffries of Pascoe Vale South won 4th prize, caravan hire from Eastern Caravan Hire. Congratulations to all our lucky winners!

The Victorian Caravan, Camping and Touring Supershow will return to Melbourne Showgrounds in early 2016 and work is already underway to build upon the success of this year’s show.
