Experience a Caravanning Holiday

Category: News, Date: 4 June 2012

Australians might be tightening their belts in tough and uncertain economic times, but many are rediscovering the simple pleasures of time spent together, on the road caravanning and camping.

More and more Australians are holidaying on the road said Stuart Lamont, Chief Executive Officer of Caravan, RV & Accommodation Industry of Australia (CRVA).

“Between 2008 and 2011, caravan and campervan registrations rose by 14.7% across Australia, with now over 474,000 registered RV products throughout Australia,” he said.

“In 2010, campervans in Australia alone travelled approximately 607 million kilometres which is equivalent to driving to the moon and back 790 times, or around Earth a massive 15,172 times!”

“That means on average, each campervan travelled nearly 12,000 kilometres, an increase of 39% in the distance travelled by the average campervan in 2007.”

These findings support a recent consumer report that revealed 7 million Australians have visited a caravan holiday park in the last two years and 9.3 million are intending to holiday in the
Caravanning & Holiday Parks Industry in the next 2 years.

Mr Lamont said that the strong growth in the Caravanning & Holiday Parks Industry is a result of Australian’s looking to get better value out of their holidays.

“The Caravan and Holiday Park Industry provides some of the most affordable holiday options in Australia not to mention the many lifestyle and health benefits that people get out of this type of holiday” Mr Lamont said.

“It’s the freedom from daily routines that is so appealing about a caravan and camping holiday.”

“Bonding with like-minded people over happy hour, swapping recipes and travel stories and making friends for life – these priceless experiences you have on the road are what matters most,” he added.
