Sydney Mardi Gras is one of the most colourful celebrations of the year, and we were proud to wave the rainbow flag and support Australia’s Gay Nomads at the annual celebration.
Caravanning and camping is a welcoming community for people of all ages and orientations, and this is the second time we have supported Australia’s Gay Nomads with our motorhome embellished with a rainbow ‘Let’s Go’ logo.
Lynne Hocking, founder of Australia’s Gay Nomads, has been attending Mardi Gras since 1992 and believes this was one of the best celebrations yet.
“It was the biggest night as far as people on the street and the level of support… it’s incredibly empowering,” she said.
“We are so thankful for the support… there were about 26 of us and it was a lot of fun, everybody was really pumped.”
The rainbow Let’s Go motorhome was provided with the help of Apollo Motorhomes and the support of Caravan and Camping Industry Association of New South Wales.
Ms Hocking said the motorhome was the most unusual in the parade.
“There’s something about the big motorhome and the thought of camping that just got the crowd going… people on our float travelled from Melbourne, Wagga, the Blue Mountains, Woolloongong and more… last year was really Sydney-centric so it was great to have people travel.
“Australia’s Gay Nomads is about letting people know it is safe (to go caravanning and camping), that there are other likeminded travellers, and the outreach side of things. That’s what it’s all about.”
