Reel In the Fun and Fish With Reflections Sustainable Fishing Series

Category: Inspiration, News, Date: 25 October 2024

If you like to cast a line competitively or you’re an occasional angler just having fun, consider adding the Reflections Sustainable Fishing Series to your weekend getaway calendar. Up to $25,000 in prizes is up for grabs in each of the three competitions in the inaugural Series, with a firm focus on educating anglers how to fish sustainably and protect waterways.

In fact, entrants in the Series will notice a few changes to the regular fishing competition format: fish health will be at the forefront, with a catch and release photo system for entries, and entrants will receive advice on the correct way to handle fish.

The Series is an industry-leading event organised by OzFish, the nation’s only sustainable fishing charity, and Reflections, a Crown Land Manager which reinvests all profits into its 40 holiday parks and the 47 community reserves it cares for across NSW.

It all kicks offs at Reflections Copeton Waters on November 1-3 with the first competition in the series, then proceeds to Reflections Burrinjuck Waters (March 21-23, 2025), and concludes at Reflections Lake Keepit (May 16-18, 2025).

Entries for the first Copeton event have been strong, and organisers anticipate a late surge of participants drawn by the excitement of the prizes and catching the iconic Murray Cod.

All profits from entry fees will be allocated by OzFish to restore fish habitat in the local catchment area.

“We’re really breaking some past fishing traditions here, but this series is the five-star experience in sustainable fishing,” OzFish CEO Cassie Price said.

Wishing all the entrants luck, Reflections CEO Nick Baker encouraged participants and their families to respect the beautiful waterways at Copeton, Burrinjuck, Lake Keepit, and beyond.

“This Series is showcasing some of the State’s best fishing areas in the State in our parks and we’re thrilled to provide families a fun and educational opportunity to get outside and connect with each other and their community,” Mr Baker said.
