Launch of specialist caravan industry training ensures RV manufacturing stays world class in Aus

Australia’s recreational vehicle industry determination to remain world class is behind the launch of a new training college by the Caravan Industry Australia Victorian Trades Division (CIAVic) and Wodonga Institute of TAFE.

The Victorian Minister for Training and Skills Steve Herbert today unveiled the National Caravan Industry Training College at Supreme Caravans, caravan dealership on the Hume Highway at Craigieburn.

The college is an innovative partnership between CIAVic and Wodonga Institute of TAFE which aims to raise the professionalism and standards of the caravan industry by producing skilled people with nationally accredited industry qualifications and non-accredited industry specific training.

“The caravan industry is worth over $1.4 billion per annum employing directly over 5500 people. As a vibrant and exciting industry there is a genuine commitment to the on-going development of skills so that the industry continues to thrive by ensuring Australian produced recreational vehicles and services are world class.” CIA Vic CEO Rob Lucas said.

“For the first time there will be an entry level pathway delivered for our Industry which will be the creation of new jobs, in this we are working closely with City of Hume Economic development team on a Job Creation strategy here in Melbourne North.

“The college is a significant investment in the future of our industry and aims to provide people with real opportunities for careers in the recreational vehicle industry, The college will support the associations strategies to create jobs in our industry. ” Mr Lucas said.

“The training and development of our Industry people is paramount to our ongoing success and growth, and the partnership signifies a collaboration between and award winning TAFE, and a vibrant, growing Industry,” said CIAVIC President Nat Schiavello.

The college will begin taking in enrolments before the end of August through the Wodonga Institute of TAFE with training being delivered in real workplace time with TAFE trainers and assessors.

Additional partnerships with industry suppliers and professional training facilitators will be responsible for delivering non-accredited industry specific training.

Students completing the accredited training programs will receive a formal qualifications in the following:

Certificate III in Recreational Vehicle Manufacture MSA30610

Certificate III in Recreational Vehicle and Accessories Retailing MSA 30710

Certificate III in Recreational Vehicle Service and Repair MSA30510

Apart from student programs the college will also offer three-day Caravan Industry Supervisors Courses as well as an emerging leaders program which will be part residential / Part course work

Management and technical workshops as well as ongoing Industry Professional development programs will also be available.
