Located between South Australia and Western Australia along the Great Australian Bight and the iconic Nullarbor Plain, the Bunda Cliffs are a spectacular sight to behold. Stretching an incredible 200 km, they are the longest uninterrupted sea cliffs in the world and form part of the largest stretch of south-facing coastline in the Southern Hemisphere.
Here’s why the Bunda Cliffs should be on your Great Aussie bucket list!
One of nine distinctive landscapes in the Alinytjara Wilurara region, these remote cliffs offer three official lookouts that provide unforgettable viewing opportunities. The area is an important habitat for globally significant threatened marine species, along with a wide variety of fish, sharks, seabirds and wader birds.
Whales can be spotted year-round, with mothers and calves often staying in the area throughout the season. During the peak July–August period, it’s not uncommon for more than 100 whales to be visible at once from the viewing platforms.
The Bunda Cliffs are also a paradise for photographers and nature lovers. The towering limestone walls plunge dramatically into the Southern Ocean, creating striking contrasts of colour and texture throughout the day. Sunrise and sunset cast warm light across the cliffs, while windy days bring powerful surf crashing against the base. Whether you’re stopping briefly or lingering longer, the views feel different every time you visit.

The famous Nullarbor Plain stretches from Norseman in WA to Ceduna in SA. As the world’s largest limestone plain, it covers around 270,000 square kilometres and spans roughly 1,200 km at its widest point. This iconic journey is considered a “must-do” for caravanners, long-distance travellers and 4WD adventurers.
Despite its vast, treeless landscape, the Nullarbor is alive with wildlife, including kangaroos, camels, dingoes, emus and wedge-tailed eagles. The region also contains more than 250 limestone caves that provide habitat for many unique and unusual species found nowhere else.
