The Fleurieu Peninsula is a region much loved for its breathtaking coastal beaches, the internationally renowned wines of McLaren Vale and unique gastronomic experiences.
Located only 40km from Adelaide, this region has been popular with South Australians for their annual summer beach getaway for decades, however in recent times the Fleurieu Peninsula has become a year-round destination with those wishing to spot a whale, or top up their wine cellars while taking in dramatic coastlines.
The historic and fascinating towns of Victor Harbor, Port Elliot, Goolwa, Willunga and McLaren Vale are all situated within the Fleurieu Peninsula, each with their own unique history to share alongside stunning beachside views.
If you are keen to escape to the beach this summer, then the Fleurieu Peninsula is the place to be, with the delightfully sheltered beach at Horseshoe Bay to the more challenging surf beaches at Middleton and Waitpinga, you’re sure to find something to suit perfectly.
Other experiences you may like to try while there include boat trips to see whales, dolphins and seals, or why not take a horsedrawn cart out to Granite Island where you can take the Kaiki walking trial around the island as you take in the large granite rocks and potentially spot some more seals. There is also quad biking over rolling hills at Waitpinga Farm, kayaking in the Inman Valley and wine tasting flights to be enjoyed at D’Arenberg Winery, Chapel Hill Winery or Wirra Wirra Vineyards just to name a few.
There are 15 member caravan and camping parks of SA Parks located within The Fleurieu Peninsula, stretching from Christies Beach and winding around the coastline to Clayton Bay. Choose from parks like the super family-friendly Beachside Holiday Park at Normanville, the immersed in wine country McLaren Vale Cabin Caravan Park or the peaceful and relaxing Clayton Bay Riverside Holiday Park.
You can find all 15 parks that are dotted throughout the Fleurieu Peninsula listed here.
