Wollomombi Gorge is a breathtaking natural wonder located in the New England region of northern NSW. It sits within Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. This spectacular area is known for its dramatic gorge landscapes, scenic lookouts, and cascading waterfalls. Wollomombi Gorge is the deepest in NSW and features two waterfalls, including Wollomombi Falls—the highest in the state and one of the most impressive in all of Australia.
Visit Wollomombi Gorge and experience the wild beauty of one of NSW’s most rugged wilderness areas. The Wollomombi Falls lookout provides panoramic views of the 220-metre cascading waterfall and the dramatic valley below.
Take a walk along one of the many scenic trails, including the Chandler Track, which leads to views of the second waterfall in the area, or the Wollomombi Track—a 4km return loop offering stunning vistas over Chandler Gorge. Picnic tables and BBQ facilities are available, making it easy to enjoy a peaceful lunch surrounded by nature.
The gorge is less than a kilometre from the quaint village of Wollomombi—a small, character-filled place with a rich history. The name “Wollomombi” is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning “the meeting of two waters.”
Just a short drive away is the vibrant regional city of Armidale. Known for its tree-lined streets, grand 19th-century churches, and heritage architecture, Armidale is a great base for exploring the wider New England region. Blending heritage charm with modern convenience, the city features galleries, museums, and a thriving local food and wine scene.
You can also follow the scenic Waterfall Way (Tourist Drive 19), which connects Armidale to the coast and passes several World-Heritage listed national parks and stunning waterfalls along the way.
