Showcasing some of South Australia’s most breathtaking coastal scenery, Dhilba Guuranda / Innes National Park is a hidden gem on the Yorke Peninsula that rewards travellers with rugged beauty, rich history and wide-open coastal views.

Coastline, Wildlife and History 

Located around 300 kilometres from Adelaide, Dhilba Guuranda / Innes National Park offers a diverse range of outdoor experiences. Visitors can enjoy bushwalking, wildlife spotting, fishing, swimming and surfing, all while uncovering layers of the region’s fascinating past. 

The park features an extensive network of walking trails, ranging from gentle 30-minute strolls to more challenging four-hour hikes. Along the way, keep an eye out for wildlife — more than 140 bird species have been recorded here, along with Western Grey Kangaroos, Tammar Wallabies, Pygmy Possums, Echidnas, and marine life including seals and dolphins along the coastline.

Beaches and Lookouts to Discover 

If beach time is more your style, Dhilba Guuranda delivers in spades. Shell Beach is known for its crystal-clear waters and glittering rock pools, while Dolphin Beach offers sweeping white sands contrasted by striking red cliffs. 

The park is also home to several spectacular lookouts, each offering a different perspective of the coastline: 

  • Gulawulgawi Ngunda-Nhaga — panoramic views right at the entrance to the park 
  • Chinamans Hat Island Lookout — scenic views across to the offshore island 
  • Royston Head — sweeping vistas of rugged cliffs and open ocean

Other must-see locations include the historic Cape Spencer Lighthouse, the haunting Ethel Beach ShipwreckWest Cape Lighthouse, and the remains of Inneston, an abandoned gypsum mining township that offers a fascinating glimpse into the area’s past.
