Category: News, Date: 13 November 2017

Look out for the ‘Community Welcomes Recreational Vehicles’ signage on your next trip and rest easy knowing that your destination is equipped to welcome you and your caravan, camper trailer, motorhome or campervan. This month we are profiling Yeppoon.

These towns have made a commitment to offer easily accessible long vehicle short term parking within the town centre and have clear directional signage to their local visitor information centre.

The township of Yeppoon is the gateway to the Keppel Islands and the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

With its backdrop of offshore islands, sparkling azure sea and clear blue skies Yeppoon provides the perfect location to kick back and relax – or to get out amongst it to explore all this great location has to offer!

Wander through town and browse the great selection of boutiques and gift stores before sitting down for a bite to eat at one of the beautiful cafés and restaurants in town.

Take the family to the fantastic “Keppel Kraken” zero‐depth water park, open every day this free water park provides the opportunity for the kids to run off some energy before enjoying a family BBQ on the timber decks where the custom made picnic tables are located.

A short walk south down Anzac Parade is Appleton Park, a fully fenced and shaded children’s playground that offers almost endless activities for the kids, including an all abilities playground, sandpit and mini bike track, and just next to the park is a skate park for the more adventurous.

While in Yeppoon take a walk to Figtree and Ross Creeks, these are home to the black and little red flying foxes.  At sunset thousands of these amazing mammals rise spectacularly into the sky as they head off to their feeding grounds.

Yeppoon has a huge events calendar with numerous festivals, art installations, free concerts and movie nights.  The calendar kicks off each year with the Great Australian Beach Party on Australia Day and each August plays host to The Village Festival, a local music event that brings some of the best Australian music to town.

As a producer of tropical and exotic fruits (such as mangos, pineapples, lychees), Yeppoon has some of the largest producing pineapple farms in the state.  Each October the Yeppoon Lions host the Tropical Pinefest, a celebration of the region’s history as a pineapple producing area.  This great weekend long event includes fireworks, a gala ball and street parade with the newly crowned Tropical Pine Fest Ambassador.

On the first Sunday of every month the Figtree Markets are run, this market offers a wide variety of fresh produce, along with some fantastic local arts and crafts.
