Category: Inspiration, News, Date: 19 August 2022

Where is Lightning Ridge?

A historic opal mining town in the heart of Outback NSW- this is a fantastic spot to book your next camping escape.

What’s there to do?

This town is filled with rich history, originally famed for it’s finding of a rare black opal.

Take a look through the Chambers of the Black Hand- Australia’s very own Mount Rushmore, or look through the John Murray Art Gallery.

Relax and unwind in one of the large artesian baths at the Lightning Ridge Bore Baths with water from the Great Artesian Basin, which is over 2 million years old!

And of course, if visiting Lightning Ridge, you must make an effort to visit the Australian Opal Centre.

Where can I stay?

The BIG4 Opal Holiday Park is truly regional New South Wales best kept secret.

You’ll be well equipped to enjoy your country holiday without losing any of the comfort.

There is a heated swimming pool, a doggy daycare, a camp kitchen, a communal firepit, a giant chess board for the kids and much much more.

Located only minutes from the town centre- there’s no better spot to stay to see this sleepy town.

There are several villa and cabin options, along with the caravan and camping sites, perfect for anyone of any budget!

Meet the owners!

Meet Ann and Ray, the current managers of Big4 Opal Holiday Park in Lightning Ridge!

Along with Marshall, their 3 year old Labrador, they have been managing the BIG4 Opal Holiday Park for 7 months.

“It’s a beautifully designed and presented park in the middle of the Outback. The staff are lovely to work with, get along well with the guests, and as such creates a great vibe for all,” said Ann.

When asked what differentiates Opal Holiday Park from other parks, the options were endless.

“The BIG4 Opal Holiday Park has the space available to allow guests to book into large drive through sites, spacious enough for quiet and relaxation, close to amenities and thoroughly designed facilities throughout. The BIG4 Opal Holiday Park is the youngest park in town, opened for the last thirteen years, close to the artesian bore baths, with the only doggy day-care service available in town,” she said.
