Bright and the surrounding High Country is one of Victoria’s most loved holiday regions — known for its fresh alpine air, stunning natural scenery and a vibrant town centre that offers something for every kind of traveller.
Like many regional communities, Bright and Porepunkah experienced a challenging period last year. This followed a tragic incident that took the lives of two police officers and had a significant impact on the local community. While locals will always remember those who were lost, the region has shown remarkable strength and resilience. Today, Bright and its surrounds are open, welcoming visitors and looking ahead with optimism.
Tourism plays an important role in supporting regional communities, and simply visiting — staying in caravan parks, enjoying local cafes and exploring the area — helps contribute to that recovery. If you have not visited the stunning Bright and surrounds region, or have been meaning to return, now is the time to do so. There are caravan parks offering a wide range of accommodation to appeal to everyone.
This is a region that offers both relaxation and adventure. It’s the perfect mix.

A popular way to spend the day is travelling the 6.6km section of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail from Bright to Porepunkah, where you can cool off in the river before chilling out with a drink and meal at the Porepunkah Pub.
Bright itself has gorgeous riverside parklands, including the popular splash park. There’s a vibrant town centre, with a range of specialty shops, including the charming Christmas store, as well as local markets to explore.
Day trips can see you head up to Mount Buffalo or Mount Beauty. There’s rail trails and mountain biking, while the region is also rich in trout flyfishing opportunities.
There’s still plenty of warm weather left to explore this beautiful region, but Autumn is an extremely popular time to visit for the stunning display of Autumn leaves. And if music is your thing, don’t miss the Brighter Days Festival.
This three-day fundraising festival raises money for special children’s charities and this year’s line-up includes Kate Cebrano, Chocolate Starfish, the Wolfe Brothers and Leo Sayer.
