For Annette Jones and her partner Kev, the dream of travelling full-time had been brewing for over 15 years. From the moment Kev popped the question on their second date—“Will you travel around Australia with me?”—the wheels were already in motion.
Fast forward to June 2023, and they’ve finally hit the road, swapping suburban routines for wide open highways. But their journey didn’t begin as smoothly as it could have…
After a long wait—19 months for their custom caravan—their plans were nearly derailed when their 7-month-old Nissan Patrol caught fire just ten days before they were due to collect the new van! Thanks to a dealership stepping in with a cancelled Patrol order, the couple was able to get moving without too much delay.
While the fire was a stressful setback, it only reinforced their determination to embrace this lifestyle and share it with others through All Around Oz.
Annette isn’t just travelling—she’s working full-time on the road, running multiple digital platforms including:
Every day, Annette creates content, manages communities, answers questions, and shares advice for new and seasoned travellers alike—even on Christmas Day.
“There’s always someone asking a question or needing help in one of our groups. It’s a full-time job, and I love it.”
While there’s no such thing as a “typical” day, Annette makes time to create content when they’re parked up in new towns. Whether she’s out taking photos, writing blog posts, or managing social media, her schedule flexes around the journey.
The couple is now looking at mounting their Starlink dish so Annette can work even while in transit—another way they’re evolving their mobile business.
Annette’s work is powered by a mix of essential tech and smart connectivity:
Here are Annette’s top 5 tips for managing finances on the road:
“Working and living on the road [is not] all unicorns and rainbows. Social media allows us to see highlight reels…”
The biggest challenge? Not seeing family and friends as often. Although technology goes a long way to staying in touch, it isn’t quite the same. However, the positives are significant—meeting incredible people, exploring new places, and the freedom to work from anywhere.
Even in the face of unexpected family issues, Annette and Kev found ways to stay connected and supportive through technology and regular visits.
“A bad day on the road still beats the 9-5 grind.”
