Category: Inspiration News RoadtoaMillion2526 Date: 19 Aug 2025

Early to mid-spring is one of the best times to visit the Northern Territory. With fewer crowds, spectacular sunsets and warm sunny days, it is the perfect time to travel and enjoy the final weeks of the dry season.

Here are some of the top adventures in the NT this Spring.

National Park Wonders

The NT boasts some of the most unique and breathtaking National Parks in all of Australia (and the world). In spring, Kakadu National Park in the Top End enters Gurrung season. This is the hot, dry season before the wet season begins. This season is marked by active wildlife and long-necked turtles laying their eggs.

To soak up the beauty of this ancient landscape, hike to the stunning Burrunykuy (Nourlangie) and view the beautiful rock art and enjoy one of the NT’s best sunsets. Another Top End Park gem is Litchfield National Park—known for its spectacular waterfalls and watering holes such as Florence Falls, Buley Rockhole and Wangi Falls. Early spring is one of the best times to enjoy the watering holes as Crocs are less active during this time.

In Central Australia, Spring is a special time to visit Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park as wildflowers bloom, adding additional colour to an already vibrant red landscape. The sunsets over Uluru and Kata Tjuta have to be seen to be believed. Walk the base of Uluru or hike the iconic ‘Valley of the Winds’ route at Kata Tjuta to witness these ancient, rugged landscapes up close.

Another Red Centre highlight in Spring is Watarrka National Park or Kings Canyon. In Spring, average daytime temperatures are at a manageable mid-20s to low-30s, making it the ideal time to hike the Kings Canyon Rim Walk. Explore the majestic canyon landscapes, spot young wildlife in the park and witness the lush Garden of Eden waterhole as new flora blooms.

Cultural Journeys

Spring in the NT offers a unique opportunity to connect to Country and soak up the rich culture and heritage of the region on an Indigenous-led tour or local Aboriginal festivals. Spring also brings a line-up of vibrant festivals such as Milikapiti Festival on the Tiwi Islands, the Darwin International Film Festival, Desert Mob Festival in the Red Centre, KwartaTuma Festival at Ormiston Gorge, and the much-loved Bush Bands Bash.

Take the time to explore local art centres and galleries, visit cultural destinations such as Hermannsburg and browse the colourful local markets of the Top End and Red Centre.
