New to camping, or considering a change? There are so many options, and what’s best for you may change over time. If you’re starting from scratch, check out our online quiz to help you choose the best vehicle type. If you’re searching for some additional camping styles, check out the list below.

Motorhome/Campervan/Caravan

The tried and tested method for many, motorhomes are an excellent way to see Australia.

4×4 and Offroad Trailer

Perhaps the more adventurous option, this is for people who want to get off the beaten track. Much of Australia’s Outback can be reached by main sealed roads, but to get to the less-travelled spots (and some peace and quiet), you may need some extra equipment.

This option requires more planning and research to complete your trip safely. Check out the Safety tab on our website to learn more about preparing for your offroad holiday!

Rooftop Tent

A rooftop tent is a popular option for travellers who want the flexibility of a tent with the convenience of a quick setup. Mounted on the roof racks of a vehicle, these tents fold out in minutes and keep you elevated off the ground.

Rooftop tents are particularly popular with 4WD travellers and weekend road trippers, as they allow you to camp almost anywhere your vehicle can go. They’re a great choice for people who enjoy simple, lightweight travel without towing a trailer or caravan.

Budget Roadtrip

You don’t need a large vehicle or expensive setup to enjoy camping around Australia. A simple tent and basic camping gear can be all you need for an unforgettable road trip.

For first-time campers or travellers on a budget, it’s a great way to experience the freedom of the open road while keeping costs down.

Glamping

Not very experienced with camping, or trying to convince your partner or friend to come along? A great alternative to camping is glamping, or glamorous camping. This provides the essence of camping in the great outdoors, with the comfort of soft beds and daily showers. These setups range from a safari tent set up for you in the bush to a full luxury experience.
