Take the family for a road trip south of Perth with a 3-hour drive to the gorgeous Margaret River. Indulge yourself in luxurious wines, thrilling adventure, and with some of Western Australia’s most iconic landmarks; there’s something for everyone!
Situated almost dead center between Perth and the Margaret River is the beautiful Yalgorup National Park, the perfect place to stretch your legs. It is made up of 10 breathtaking lakes, woodlands, and nature trails to explore. Be sure to check out the iconic thrombolites, only found in a handful of places on the planet. The rock-like structures lay just off the beach under the water’s surface. Scientists believe these living fossils are one of the first life forms on earth, dating back 570 million years! And remember, they are living, so make sure to stick to the path and don’t step on them. Don’t forget to pack lunch as Yalgorup National Park is the perfect place for a picnic.
Once you’re back on the road, make your next stop at Ferguson Valley’s quirky Gnomesville. Over 3000 gnomes have come from all over the world to Gnomesville, where they now call home. Wander through the villages and spot the Gnomes climbing logs, hanging out in trees, playing cricket, and even flying planes! You’re welcome to leave a Gnome of your own or take home a souvenir.
If you want to kick back and learn the most about the Margaret River, a discovery tour will do it all for you. Travel in a luxury 4WD, enjoy a canoe trip down the tranquil Margaret River, and then stop at one of the top beaches for a coffee. You’ll be lucky enough to visit the ancient waterhole, taste local honey, and learn about Aboriginal history. Enjoy lunch at a divine winery and a 4WD drive up the Wilyabrup Cliffs where you can keep a keen eye out for various forms of incredible sea life and wildlife.
If you want to stretch the trip out for a couple of days to really experience all that the gorgeous Margaret River has to offer, consider pitching a tent at a nearby holiday park or glamping in style with an RV or motorhome!
