Sight Seeing and Giant M&M in Townsville – Tassie2Tip

Good evening peeps! I am sitting outside the caravan as the kids lay asleep, sipping on a cleansing ale wearing a pair of boardies and a singlet top. I just looked at the weather in our home town and it’s a balmy 6 degrees. How lucky are we at the moment? But on the down side all good things come to an end and we have passed the half way mark of our awesome trek away.

We spent a couple of nights poking about Townsville. That place is a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. It is all flat except for the town’s iconic hill – Castle Hill. We opted to drive the mountain and have a picnic lunch at the top. The views were amazing and we managed to see Townsville and the surrounds on a pearler day.

The rock pool swimming pool at the northern end of The Strand was seen from the on top of the hill by the kids so we had to oblige. It is an awesome salt water swimming hole surrounded by a bar, café, grassy areas and playgrounds with a million dollar water view. It kept the small and little kids entertained for a few hours.

Next stop was the spectacular Mission Beach. This was another recommendation and we are staying at the Beachcomber Coconut Holiday Park nestled at South Mission Beach, we were greeted with a hilarious and entertaining staff member. It’s a beautiful park right on the beach and again the kiddies are spoilt with another great pool, waterside and games room.

We explored the Mission Beach Sunday Market and stocked up on some fresh local produce.  The kids are smashing the fruit each day and we have to keep buying it by the Hilux load.  The local bar and bistro provided us with an awesome meal that we could not finish, happily washed down with a fine tasting bottle of hops.

We have had a fair bit of rain in the last week with a few dry patches here and there but we are hoping that as we continue to head north, the rain will pack its bags and head south. We try to make the best of what there is to offer but it does limit our funtivities. I look at the forecast with anticipation for the next week and know that it will be dry and warmer as we play at Cape York.

The fun is yet to start!
