Hi there! We’re the Blackmores. My name is Claire and I’ll be your designated blog writer giving you the honest truth about travelling in a caravan with 2 small children and one man child. With me is my husband Colin, 4-year-old Evie and 2-year-old Bruce. We’ve decided to travel Australia and attempt to experience all the great things this country has on offer particularly those suitable for families.
The 1st stop on the trip was an overnighter at Kookaburra Caravan Park just before Glenn Innes. It’s absolutely a stunning property and while it has no powered sites it has ridiculously good amenities. The manager Dave and the owner Duncan were legends both keen for a chat offering a wealth of knowledge about the local area. Unfortunately, we had just the one night there as we had plans to catch up with family in Gunnedah but definitely could have stayed longer to explore the area.
After a rocky start to the trip to Gunnedah mostly due to a screaming Bruce ‘I am not the Barry!” we made a quick stop in Glenn Innes, fed the hangry children, whacked on the DVD players and we were back on the road. Fivehours later we made it to Gunnedah and Col’s uncles place. The kids have been more than entertained living the farm life feeding chickens and collecting eggs, driving tractors, riding bikes, checking on the cattle. It was such a fantastic learning experience for them, so much fun and all outdoors. If that’s not enough we’ve visited Dripping Rock a normally pretty dry place but given the recent rain a spectacular waterfall. We’ve got plenty more to see and do around town but that’s for another story!
