Camping from the Snow to the Sea – The Blackmores

After a tough week with the kids we thought maybe a complete change of scenery was in order so we packed up the caravan and headed to Jindabyne for the end of the ski season and to find our next caravan holiday park.

Week Seven

We visited both Thredbo and Perisher. Evie absolutely loved every aspect of the snow, Bruce on the other hand was not the biggest fan (the wind was “annoying him” so he tells me) so it worked out well we only stayed for a few days.

We decided to head back to the coast hopefully to some warmer weather so we tracked back down Snowy River Way to a little town called Marlo. It seems like a pretty quiet little town but has a great pub. We did a little adventuring around Cape Conran and north of Orbost which is scenically beautiful but this was where Colin decided to have a “sneaky look” down by the Snowy River’s edge where we got seriously stuck with the car. We were slipping in the mud towards the river which was not an ideal situation, luckily the winch and maxtrax saved the day but lesson learned and we’re now getting new tyres!

Travelled a bit further south to Lakes Entrance where we set up camp, unfortunately we’re having no luck chasing good weather because it seems rain is the theme of Victoria for us so far.

But we’re not going to let that deter us from activities so we went underground on one of the rainy days to Buchan Caves, Colin and I enjoyed it but the guide told Evie there were fairies in the cave (as we visited Fairy Cave) and when she realised she wasn’t going to see actual fairies flying around she let everyone know about it. Plus, Bruce didn’t want to walk… at all, so we took turns carrying him through the 45-minute tour where 50% of it was spent walking through passages just taller than Evie.

On a sunny day though we were out fishing and the kids enjoyed some of the native wildlife like the friendly swans and their new babies. Hopefully all these weather systems will pass, our stuff will dry out and we can spend some more time outside of the caravan doing what we love!
