The most important thing was done whilst en-route to Seventeen Seventy – The Bundy Rum Distillery Tour. Going by the focus on this picture, the camera must have had one too many!
Being a Bundy fan, I roped Jack into coming along for the 1 hour guided tour of the distillery. It is a massive complex that holds some 300 vats of rum that are worth 7 million dollars each. That’s some big dollars! The tour is a must but the most favourable part was the free samples at the end. They were thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the sun before the last trek to 1770.
1770 and Agnes waters are two picturesque coastal towns. We stayed at the Captain Cook Holiday Village in the middle of the two places. It’s a leafy park that backs onto the bush. It has a rough 4×4/walking/bike track to the beach which the boys had a blast testing out their mountain bikes on – it sure did tire them out which is the added bonus! We found an old bit of rope on the beach and enjoyed some skipping. Kye skips as good as she did when she was 14 years old.
Charlie ended up being a bit sick so Kye was a bit caravan bound for the day. It gave me the chance to give the Hilux a quick service and sneak away for a surf at the 1770 bar way with a mate, followed up with a quiet beer as the sun set at the look out.
This is all uncharted territory for us. We have not explored this far north before. The weather is warming up and we are getting closer to our destination with each kilometre we do. We have done 3500kms so far but who’s counting.
Next stop – Yeppoon.
