From Rain to Outback Sunshine – The Blackmores

< Inspiration / Category: Featured Bloggers / Tags: Travel with Kids

With big change comes great adventure. After what felt like a forever of rainy days we decided to pack up our caravan and head to the only place in Australia where you’re bound to get sunshine and heat. That’s right the centre of Australia, a measly 2600kms from Lakes Entrance is the big rock Uluru and the weather forecast was pure Outback sunshine.

A drastic decision you might think but when you’re trying to survive with 2 young bored children in an 18ft caravan a decision like this makes perfect sense, some might say it was genius! With that we packed up the kids and made the 4-day trip to Uluru in search of summer as Evie so aptly put it!

The kids were total legends given we were spending about 8-9 hours a day in the car only pulling up for dinner and bed, Colin even managed to find a thorny devil which was on his list of lizards to catch so he was pretty stoked.

We finally made it though and summer certainly didn’t disappoint! Uluru is absolutely incredible and the pictures really don’t do it justice. We checked into Ayers Rock Resort caravan park and have been spending all our sunny days exploring both Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). While technically not summer yet and still being spring the wild flowers are in full bloom and we can’t believe how beautiful they are. Everywhere you look the red landscape is covered in the most amazing red, purple, white and yellow flowers, even growing on the red sandy dunes. Col gave Evie her first camera and she took to photography like a duck to water, loving every second of it and taking her camera everywhere.

We did the 10km base walk at sunrise with the prams which was great and which only took us a couple of hours. The weather has been awesome and we’re planning more outback adventures moving onto to Alice Springs next.
