Tag along with Follow the Sun Relay participants Poppy and Tom as they explore Denmark, a scenic town in Western Australia.
Our next destination was Denmark and our biggest day of driving – only 4 hours which isn’t long for Western Australia.
First thing in the morning we made our way to Hamelin Bay in the hope of seeing the friendly rays that frequent the beach here. As soon as we got down to the shore, we were greeted by a small eagle ray and 2 huge bull rays – we couldn’t believe how big (and friendly!) they were!
We spent an enjoyable hour getting heaps of photos and videos of these wonderful animals. We moved on to Jewel Cave next for a guided tour, we took the first tour of the day and there were only seven others in our group. Jewel Cave was spectacular!
Our guide was fantastic giving us the history of how it was discovered and all the types of crystal and rocks within the cave. At one point all the lights in the caves were switched off and we got to experience total darkness and silence!
We highly recommend exploring at least a couple of the caves in the area, each one is unique and beautiful.
Back on the road we made a whistle stop visit to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, the most south westerly tip of mainland Australia!
Lunch was a short break at a layby on the road to Denmark, lucky with the Winnebago we had a huge Dometic fridge full of goodies to keep us going!
A few people had recommended we stop off at the Valley of the Giants Treetop Walk located just before Denmark. It was a fun, if not little scary and wobbly, stop on the way and gives you real perspective of just how tall the Karri trees are.
