John here this time. It has just ticked over three weeks on the road but I can say that I feel like it’s been so much longer. I’m feeling relaxed, refreshed and work is a somewhat distant thought in the back of my mind. Give it another week and I recon I would have forgot what it is and even how to spell it.
I really like the lifestyle of living on the road. We wake up early – usually not by choice and jam so much into each day, whether it be an early morning surf, a walk, run, bike ride of a coffee fix in a new and unvisited café. Sometimes we enjoy a drive to a little coastal town or a quick shop at a large shopping complex. Other days we don’t even leave the caravan park and get run off our feet doing absolutely nothing.
We left the vast surrounds of Darlington Beach and were a bit undecided where to go next. We love Byron Bay but we also wanted to save a few of our favourite spots for the return trip to have something to look forward to.
We headed to Tweed Heads and set up the Big 4 Tweed Billabong Holiday Park. This park is awesome! The best water park and camp kitchen we have ever seen. It is second to none. We set up next to the lagoon and watched the kids swim and fish for 4 days.
We road trip up into the Gold Coast, Broadbeach and surrounds but the kids wanted to get wet. Wet and Wild was on the cards. We pretended to take the kids there but really they took us… We are not really sure who had the best time. I am just a big kid too, I guess! We definitely got our money’s worth and had an awesome time.
Each time we set up camp, we have a site that is ‘our little patch’ and we enjoy keeping it tidy. It’s a low maintenance lifestyle. Surprisingly, I am not missing the space of our house back home nor the cleaning and maintenance associated with it.
I am missing my shed though and having that little space to escape to. I am missing our dog after a few weeks and I can tell that I am not the only one.
