Videographer Wes gives us an update on the second leg of the Follow the Sun Relay. His route takes him from the Sunshine Coast up to Cairns!

Sunshine Coast to Noosa

Nine days down, and this leg of Follow the Sun has been awesome so far!

First we headed to Maroochydore Beach Holiday Park to meet Annette Sym for our official ‘handover’. The next morning we drove to the Noosa River Caravan Park which was awesome. They helped us out with suggestions of things to see and do, and we did our first ‘happy hour’ there. We weren’t sure what to expect but it was amazing- there were about 60 people who all came down for a drink.

Everybody wanted to know about Follow the Sun, the motorhome and Dometic, so I ended up doing a bit of a speech and a Let’s Go Monopoly giveaway. On our second night at Noosa we watched the sunset. We’d been told it was the most amazing sunset and that was true, it was pretty incredible.

Noosa to Hervey Bay

From Noosa we drove to Hervey Bay and stayed at Discovery Parks Fraser Coast for a night. I went for a skate down the Esplanade to check things out, then at the park we had another happy hour and they put us on one of the nicest sites, right next to the lagoon.

Hervey Bay to Rockhampton

From Hervey Bay, our next park was at Elliot Heads but of course we had to visit Bundaberg on the way and make a pit stop at the Bundaberg Rum Distillery! We then headed to Elliot Heads Holiday Park, where we saw another amazing sunset complete with live music.

My mate had been travelling with me for the first part of the trip but had to head back home, and I headed to Rockhampton where I have been for the past few days.

Travelling around in the Winnebago has been going well. It’s awesome having the kitchen and table to work on while somebody else drives along is really cool. The kitchen utensils and gadgets have been pretty nifty and everything about it is good really! I can see why the grey nomads and families travelling around really love it.

As I head further up north I’m really looking forward to Yeppoon and Airlie Beach, and Mackay as well where I’m meeting up with a friend who will travel with me for the next couple of weeks. We are really looking forward to going up to the Great Barrier Reef area and Whitehaven Beach if we can!
