As Ellen and Les continue their journey from Alice Springs to Darwin, they have come across plenty of gems. Here’s a bit about one of their favourite caravan parks, Katherine Holiday Park.

Katherine Holiday Park

Good old K town! We lived here in Katherine for 2 months at the start of the dry season this year, so we know our way around town pretty well. Here are some hot spots we checked out for the first time and a little bit of local knowledge.

There are quite a few caravan parks in town, more than you’d ever expect. Katherine Holiday Park is our top pick, with big shady grass sites, spacious cabins and even canvas safari tents!!

This family run park, doesn’t belong to any big name caravan park companies but will acknowledge any of their loyalty cards- that is pretty amazing!! First thing we have to mention is how absolutely lovely the staff are, they go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable and everyone feels so welcome as soon as they step into the reception!

If you don’t feel like cooking after a long day of exploring, the Fig Tree Bistro is on site. It’s open six nights a week during May-October. This is a popular place amongst locals with one of the best outdoor dining atmospheres in the whole of Katherine. The meals are huge, without the huge price tag and the beers are cold!

Facilities

Right next to the bistro is the pool and spa area. The pool is HUGE and bright blue, it looks so inviting on a hot day and we couldn’t wait to jump in! The pool and spa are very clean and really well maintained.

Katherine Holiday Park has one of the best laundry facilities we’ve ever seen in a caravan park, it’s a large room with plenty of washing machines, dryers and outside are 2 massive washing lines with more than enough space for all visitors. The amenities block is also huge and really well maintained! Big showers, with great water pressure and lots of toilets and basins.

As soon as you drive into the park you’ll notice there is so much space, we had neighbours and were still a comfortable distance apart.  There are plenty of spots for ‘big rigs’ and also a dump spot on site. The park is full of wildlife, with many different types of beautiful birds and cute little wallabies bouncing around.

A short walk across the road you’ll find Low Level Bridge, where brave locals swim. We took our fishing rods down a few times but had no luck. If you continue walking over the bridge, you’ll find a path to the left with a sign pointing you to the Katherine Hot Springs.

There is so much to do inside, and surrounding Katherine Holiday Park! 10/10 from us, we can’t wait to come back!
