Next stop, Hervey Bay. The sun is shining and we found a Big 4 at Vernon Point to keep the children happy. We were all excited to spend a few more nights alongside a beautiful family we met at Cotton Tree Caravan Park.The kids loved the games room, they would say “mum all the games are free”. The Mum loves those sorts of games.
The weekend was over so it was time for school. I’ll hand it to the three monkeys and give them an ‘A+’ plus for creative excuses – itchy toe, I’ll do double tomorrow, my teddy doesn’t want me to learn, I’m slipping off my chair… A family in the park shared with us a fantastic tip to avoid getting flustered;
for every time the children winged or argue, add 2 minutes to their learning.
It worked a treat. We wish we thought of this a month ago. Poor Jack learned the hard way and earned himself an extra 12 minutes but the problem has to be solved and they applied themselves so much better the next day.
I’m loving running early mornings tagging Johnny for his bike ride. It works real well for us as we get a little space and get to explore these amazing towns. I have been known to stretch the truth about my run and sometimes opting to only run to the nearest coffee shop to enjoy some quiet and admire the views I have only seen in brochures.
We had a great drive around Hervey Bay and what a top place it is. We walked the 800 meter long pier whilst Charlie and I raced. I was thinking I will let him win, but it back fired and he absolutely flogged me! I’m stoked though as Charlie asked to come running with me again. He also wants to start training for our local 5km race in October. I would love to see him get into running but I just assumed that 8 was a little too young.
As like Noosa, Hervey Bay doesn’t have high rise buildings and I admire that. I guess it makes the places feel a little more homely and welcoming.
We are just loving this trip and are super relaxed. We travel slowly and we are enjoying the small things we so quickly overlook in the busyness of real life. Our three children are so happy and content. John is enjoying a breather from work and I am loving being with my family and as a result, our whole family is running smoothly (with the exception of a few moments).
Some of our friends back home can’t understand how being on the road with 5 people living in a caravan and sometimes driving for hours on end could be considered anyone’s version of fun. I can honestly say that this is living! This is so much fun especially when children don’t have the accessibility to 100’s of toys or electronics and we watch them adapt and learn to make their own fun. Not once have we heard the phase “I’m bored”.
We certainly have been reminded the two years of saving has totally been worth it!
Hervey Bay we’ll be back another time.
