Wesley’s Follow the Sun journey continues! At the end of June, Wes was officially handed the keys to the Follow the Sun Relay motorhome. In this post he shares last leg, from Mission Beach to Cairns.
After a great time at Mission Beach and Dunk Island View Van Park, it was time to pack up Winnie and hit the road again, this time heading further north up to Atherton.
While we were on the way to Big 4 Atherton Woodlands, we decided to make a pit stop at Millaa Millaa Falls- it was absolutely breathtaking and an amazing place in the Tablelands. If you are ever travelling to Atherton, it’s definitely a perfect pit stop!
I had a great time in Atherton- the park owner Patrice helped me out with organising some great tours around the area- I was lucky enough to tour the Crystal Caves and go mountain biking with Tropical Adventure Guides. I’m basically a big kid and I love doing these kinds of outdoor activities so I had a great time, and was able to shoot some videos as well!
Later on, the local paper The Tablelander even came to the caravan park to interview me and do a story about Follow the Sun which was cool, but definitely not something I’m used to!
When the day came to leave Atherton and head up to Port Douglas and Cairns for the final leg of my trip, I couldn’t believe it was all coming to an end. Since I only had a few days left, I knew I had to make the most of it.
One of the highlights of Port Douglas and my time at BIG4 Port Douglas Glengarry was definitely visiting Mossman Gorge. It’s basically a gateway to the Daintree Rainforest and is filled with waterfalls, rainforest and greenery. It’s a perfect place to explore and walk around, and you could spend hours there or just take a quick look, so it would definitely be suitable for different types of traveller. Of course, I had to take quick dip in fresh water- it was a bit chilly but worth it!!
Once I finally made it to Cairns, I had a few days to relax and enjoy the sights, beaches and amazing tropical North QLD weather.
I could not believe my month travelling was wrapping up and my time with Winnie was coming to an end. I met so many great people, saw some crazy sights and made some memories I will never forget. Follow the Sun was a great opportunity and I particularly enjoyed documenting all my experiences by photo and video since that’s my background- it felt a bit like my work, but so much easier and more organised!
I know the next family will have just as good of a time as I did and I can’t wait to see what they get up to. Over and out!
