The Real Life Classroom explorers head to Alice Springs and the MacDonnells!
Today we drove from Tennant Creek to Ti Tree Roadhouse travelling a distance of 310.2 kilometres, in a time of 3 hours and 41 minutes.
During the trip we played UNO most of the time and I kept being given pick up cards and it got really annoying!
It is currently 34 degrees Celsius and there is no internet or wifi. This is the first day without clouds.
Tomorrow we drive from Ti Tree Roadhouse to Glen Helen via Alice Springs to restock on food and water. Update you on more later.
Today we drove from Ti Tree Roadhouse and Caravan Park to Glen Helen Lodge.
Our first stop was at Aileron where we saw the big man and the big lady with a child and goanna.
I learnt that the big man is 17 metres tall from the ground to the tip of the spear and that there are ashes of two people that lived in Aileron for 30 years buried underneath!
We continued on, driving until we reached Alice Springs to stock up on a trolley load of supplies as well as seeing Yoshi San again at the northern end of Alice Springs. We went to the Olive Pink Botanic Gardens for lunch and then kept on driving.
On our way out of Alice Springs we saw John Flynn’s Grave and then we got back into our motorhome and continued on driving.
Later on, we stopped at Ellery Creek Big Hole, where we went for a swim in some very refreshing water using our inflatable ring to float around the hole in.
We then went for another drive, finally arriving at the Glen Helen Lodge where we are about to have butter chicken for dinner. Yum! Tomorrow we are going to investigate Ormiston Gorge and today we travelled 337.3 kilometres in a time of 4 hours and 59 minutes.
This morning we had honey and banana pancakes for breakfast and then went to the Ochre Pits in the West MacDonnell Ranges.
The ochre pits were stunning as they had so many different colours to see. There were reds, oranges, yellows, whites and every colour in between, all created by the amount of clay and iron in the rocks. Next we went to the Ormiston Gorge, we spent the rest of the day.
After lunch, we went down to the waterhole to go for a nice refreshing swim. I am really getting used to the cold water in and around the gorge waterholes!
Next we went on the ghost gum walk where we hiked up the hill to the ghost gum lookout, it was beautiful.
After a delicious ice cream, we drove back to Glen Helen Lodge, where we went swimming in the waterhole and met some new friends. Overall, today was a fun day with many beautiful sites and we travelled 57.3 kilometres in total!
