As Ellen and Les continue their journey from Alice Springs to Darwin, they have come across plenty of spots they’d love to visit again. Here’s a bit about their Darwin accommodation.
The first park we parked up into in Darwin, and we already can’t wait to come back! We cannot fault this place. Our only complaint is that we didn’t have enough time here!
Wonderful staff with lots of local knowledge, grassy powered and unpowered sites, cabins, an amazing bistro, bar, jumping pillow and… wait for it…. THREE POOLS!!! There is a reason this place has ‘resort’ at the end of its name! It has the luxurious feel of a resort, perfectly mixed with a family friendly atmosphere and and all round happy, friendly vibe. Our favourite night was when we did our Dometic ‘Happy Hour’ at the bar, in the pool area.
There was not a single unhappy or stressed person there and the campers got very excited when Ellen announced over the microphone that there was a chance to win a Let’s Go Caravan & Camping MONOPOLY!!! (e.g. families running through the park in their wet swimmers to snap a pic with the van!).
Multiple amenity blocks provide toilets, showers, washing machines and huge washing lines. You’ll always be able to find a vacant machine and space to dry your clean clothes!.
When we come back to Darwin, whether we’re camping at Free Spirit or not, we WILL be back for dinner at the bistro and a drink in the bar.
By far our no1 pick in Darwin for accommodation, even just based on the atmosphere alone!
In our opinion, Discovery Parks Darwin is the most conveniently placed park. It’s close to the airport and a comfortable drive from all the attractions around Darwin.
A huge park with luscious green grass on the powered/unpowered sites and amazing modern cabins!
The reception has all the local info and some necessary items you might need (including snacks and ice cream) the staff are so fun and friendly, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.
You cannot miss the beautiful blue pool as you drive in and the second pool further in the park, conveniently close to the amenities which also have washing machines and vending machines! Multiple amenity blocks with HEAPS of toilets and showers, you’ll definitely never be waiting in line! They had the most washing machines we’ve ever seen in a park ($4 per load) and plenty of washing lines as well.
Discovery Parks Darwin feels like its own little town as everyone walks along the streets, saying g’day as they pass by. A wonderful and relaxed family atmosphere in a beautiful and peaceful park!
