Caravan Industry Association of Australia has come together with Tourism Central Australia, Apollo Motorhomes and Ted’s Cameras to create the Real Life Classroom opportunity for two families to win the ultimate educational adventure! Follow the Bradley family as they start their trip.

Junior Explorers Begin Their Journey

Hi! We’re the Bradley family – Ben, Fi, Lyla and Eagle.

We have arrived in Alice Springs all the way from country Victoria. Our first impressions flying in and looking over the incredible landscape from the plane was simply, wow! This countryside is stunning.

The first thing Eagle said when we stepped off the plane was ‘I can’t wait to see what the red soil feels like!”

After hours of fun on the playground, in the swimming pool and exploring Alice Springs, we stocked up on every item known to man at Coles and hit the road towards Devils Marbles.

At first it seems like there is no life in this beautiful dry desert… but if you look closer you can find busy creatures, or signs of them everywhere. Lyla was first to spot the termite mounds that were surprisingly large in size.

We have passed a few road trains up here, and due to pulling over to look at things, have overtaken Pete and Anni’s campervan four times…well, that’s who their sticker says they are anyway.

Devils Marbles

The scenery along the way consists mainly of teams of scrubs and red soil that is broken up by black ground that has suffered at the hand of controlled burnoffs. We passed by kangaroo bones, wandering cattle, kites in the sky looking for lunch and some amazing ridges and rocks before arriving at Devils Marbles.

This place is breathtaking! We explored around the rocks and through the land around here for hours.

Lyla and Eagle had fun studying the termite mounds up close and the incredible tracks they make, as well as learning from Ben about certain plants that would be poisonous to eat and knowing where to dig in a dry creek bed for water. Lyla also somehow spotted a stick insect nymph trying to blend into the Soft Spinifex, must have had an ‘eagle eye’ for them after doing a project on them back at school earlier this year!

We listened to crickets chirping while watching the sunset and birds singing at sunrise, but apart from that there was just silence. What a fascinating and beautiful place this is.
