Back to Hobart – The Blackmores

After a great New Year in Low Head we packed up and started to travel back towards Hobart as Kate and James’ time was coming to an end.

Week Twenty Four

First stop was a couple of days at Colin’s and my favourite place in Tassie, the Bay of Fires. We did manage to sneak into the pubs paddock on the way so Ruby and Jack could feed Priscilla the pig a beer.

After a couple of nights and the weather not being overly welcoming we decided to move on. We had planned to stay in Freycinet National Park but unfortunately it was fully booked so we headed a little further south along the coast to a place called Orford which had a great little beach for the kids to play.

Had we of known that there were some fabulous cruises across to Maria Island just out of Orford we would have booked earlier but unfortunately all the cruises were fully booked when we rang. So instead we spent our time relaxing and enjoying some sunshine on the beach, which was just as good after several hours spent travelling in the car.

With the deadline approaching for Kate and James to hand back the caravan and fly home, we headed back to Hobart to spend the last couple of days seeing the city and enjoying the sights. We did the Salamanca Markets which were absolutely packed and we made the lengthy drive to do the Tahune air walk which was both scary in places but really beautiful, I have to admit the kids were definitely braver than the adults.

With a fabulous few weeks of eating, drinking and laughing too much it was with a sense of sadness and happiness that we said goodbye to the family as they headed back home.

We still had some time before our trip back on the Spirit of Tasmania so we spent our time tripping around Battery Point looking at the heritage buildings and indulging in some of the local cafes coffee and pastries.

We searched for playgrounds and had the caravan brakes replaced, the car serviced and fuel pump replaced and even managed to cut off Bruce’s hair which I shed a few tears over but it was getting pretty gross with dreadlocks forming so it was time to go before we headed back to the QLD heat wave.
