We made it to Warrnambool with Col’s temporary brake fix and booked the van service in Geelong which was great because one it was close and two they said it could be done in a day which meant we didn’t have to worry about paying for alternative accommodation.
With that sorted it was time to explore Warrnambool and the western side of the Great Ocean Road. We went and had a quick look from the mainland at Middle Island which is just off the coast of Warrnambool most would know of it as the island featured in the movie Oddball.
But it was a quick stop as we were heading to explore some of the great ocean road. We were glad we’d unhitched the van and just driven the car as there were lookouts around every corner and it’s a curly road.
The 12 Apostles were amazing but crazy windy and not short a tourist but impressive to say the least. There were plenty of other lookouts before the 12 Apostles which were a bit more protected from the wind and less busy so it was awesome to check those out as well.
We spent an entire day driving the road and popping into almost every lookout but it’s definitely a must do in our opinion, such an amazing coastline and remarkable part of Australia. Given the Great Ocean Road is 243kms we decided to save the eastern side for our next stop in Barwon Heads a small coastal town just south of Geelong.
