Relay to ‘Follow the Sun’ for an Entire Year

Category: News, Date: 11 June 2018

Are you an adventurer with an appreciation for the beauty of Australia? The Follow the Sun Relay just might be the perfect journey for you.

We are looking for families, for friends, for couples, groups or solo travellers to take on a unique journey and share their stories with us! Whether it’s visiting iconic landmarks or secret spots, we want you to show us how you see it.

This opportunity continues the very successful Dometic Follow the Sun Relay.

“We are really excited to be partnering with Caravan Industry Association of Australia for the Follow the Sun Relay,” said Justine Schuller, Head of Marketing at Dometic.

“Our mission is to make Mobile Living Easy and the Follow the Sun Relay will allow more people to do exactly that. We look forward to meeting the explorers and sharing their journeys over the coming year.”

Vehicle sponsor Winnebago Australia are also onboard and have supplied a fantastic motorhome to help participants make the most of the experience!

“Winnebago Australia are excited to be the promotional travel partner, taking people around our great country in style,” said Luke Trouchet, CEO Winnebago Australia.

“Our Byron motorhome can drive and sleep up to 6 people, so a wide range of travelers are encouraged to apply to experience the luxury and comfort of motorhoming.”

“Whether it’s a trip from Darwin to Alice with your mates, or a family excursion up the East Coast, this partnership will allow us to show Aussies’ unforgettable roadtrip experiences.”

The relay began on Saturday at the Queensland Caravan Camping and Touring Supershow in Brisbane, where our first explorers began their trip. The Winnebago motorhome will now travel around Australia and then return to the same venue one year later.

Caravan Industry Association of Australia CEO Stuart Lamont said the relay would showcase Australia and the beauty of caravan and camping holidays to the world.

“Participants will be given the keys to the motorhome, campervan or four-wheel drive and asked to share stories, videos, photos and fun moments from their trip,” he said.

“They will travel all around the country and really show people some of the amazing things they can experience on a caravan and camping holiday.”

We are excited to have cookbook author and motivational speaker Annette Sym to launch and undertake the first leg of the relay, currently travelling from Brisbane to Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast.

Annette is the author of the SYMPLY TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE cookbook series 1-7, and to date has sold over 4 million copies of her books. She is a weight loss mentor, an award-winning business woman and international motivational speaker.

While on her trip she is enjoying getting outside, driving around seeing sights, and showing people ideas for eating healthy on the road.

“If you’re travelling for a fair chunk of time, it can get very expensive and unhealthy to be eating out a lot,” she said.

“The recipes I have are quick and easy- I think they’re probably quicker than going out to the local takeaway! A lot of families travel too so it’s very economical to be cooking in the van.”

“My husband Bill and I have been married for 45 years and early in our marriage we actually had a VW Campervan and travelled Europe for three years, so this is a bit like going back to the good old days but doing it in a bit more in style!”

“We are in that age category where we are looking at slowing down with work in the next couple of years and one of our goals is to travel Australia, so it’s great for us to have this time together on the road.”

“The trip combines meeting people, sharing my tips and cooking for people, so it’s all the things I love.”
