Category: Inspiration, News, Date: 16 February 2025

Surfing is a popular Australian past-time and with all the amazing beaches and fabulous warm surf surrounding us— it just makes sense. Victoria, in the southeast is home to some of Australia’s best surf beaches, drawing surfers from all over the world to enjoy the rugged coastline and epic swells.

To help you plan your greatest surfing adventure yet, we listed all our favourite surfing spots in Victoria. Check them out!

The Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road, one of Victoria’s top tourist destinations, boasts stunning landscapes as well as legendary surf beaches like Bells Beach, home to the Rip Curl Pro competition. Bells Beach offers great swells for experienced surfers and you’ll find the best conditions here are between May and October.

Another popular spot along the Great Ocean Road is Johanna Beach, out past Cape Outway. This is another fantastic spot for intermediate to advanced surfers.

Phillip Island

Rich in surfing history, Phillip Island is a goldmine for passionate surfers. Cape Woolamai at the south of the Island, doubles as Victoria’s first surfing reserve and one of the best surfs in the country (in our humble opinion). This spot isn’t suitable for beginners I’m afraid, however you should find more sheltered bays on the north coast which are great for all levels.

Gippsland

There is a surf for everyone in the Gippsland region. The crystal-clear waters offer suitable conditions for all abilities—where experienced surfers can tackle the intense swells of Venus Bay and Pearl Point, beginners can enjoy the gentler beach breaks at East Cape!

Mornington Peninsula

Mornington Peninsula has some fantastic waves for all levels and abilities too. The popular Gunnamatta Beach offers high swells and reef breaks that are best enjoyed by more experienced surfers, whereas at Sorrento Beach you will find swells better suited to beginner and intermediate surfers.
